Susan Nakhumicha Wafula was born in Kitale, Trans-Nzoia County, Kenya. She attended the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), where she earned a Diploma in Pharmacy. She furthered her education at the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM), obtaining a Diploma in Healthcare Management. Later, she pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement and Management, a Master of Science in Supply Chain Management, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Management from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
Career
Susan’s career began in the healthcare sector, where she worked at Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS) and the Nairobi Women’s Hospital as the manager of procurement and logistics. She also served as the Pharmaceutical Technologist-in-charge at AAR Healthcare Kisumu Branch. Before entering politics, she was the Head of Supply Chain at the Institute for Global Health Sciences, University of California, San Francisco.
Political Career
In 2022, Susan ventured into politics, contesting for the Trans-Nzoia Women’s Constituency seat under the Ford Kenya political party. Although she did not win, she was later appointed as the Cabinet Secretary for Health in September 2022. However, she was recently relieved of her duties on July 11, 2024.
