Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, is an Indian politician and also the current Minister of Panchayati Raj. Rajiv possesses a rich and diverse career.
Early Life and Education
Rajiv Ranjan Singh was born on January 24, 1955, in Patna, Bihar to Jwala Prasad Singh and Kaushalya Devi. Rajiv earned his Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree from Bhagalpur University’s T.N.B. College.
Political Journey
Rajiv Ranjan’s political career began as a student activist In 1974, where he actively participated in the student movement led by Loknayak Jay Prakash Narayan, fighting against corruption.
After that he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Munger in 2019 and 2024, and has held various positions across the country since his entry into Indian politics.
Ministerial Positions
Since 2024, Ranjan has held the positions of Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying and Minister of Panchayati Raj in the Indian government.
From July 31, 2021, until December 29, 2023, he served as the national party president of Janata Dal (United).
He was also the previous President of the JD (U) Bihar unit.

Represented Munger in the 15th Lok Sabha of India.
Served as the Indian representative for Begusarai in the 14th Lok Sabha.
Member of the Bihar Legislative Council from June 2014 to June 2019.
