Francis Nwifuru is a Nigerian Lawyer and Politician, who is the current Governor of Ebonyi State, in South East Nigeria. Nwifuru who was one time a speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly took over from his successor, Senator Dave Umahi after he completed his tenure, and is the current Minister for Works.
Early Life and Background
Francis Ogbonna Erishi Nwifuru was born on February 25, 1975, in Oferekpe Agbaja, Izzi Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, Nigeria. He grew up in a polygamous environment within the well-known Chief and Mrs. Nwifuru Nwamkpu family. His educational journey faced challenges, as he attended school intermittently while also assisting his brothers in tending to their father’s numerous cattle. After completing his post-primary education, he was baptized as a Catholic and adopted the name Francis. He later enrolled at Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, where he studied Building Technology and Woodwork. In June 2021, he obtained a master’s degree in Procurement, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management from Salford University, Manchester, United Kingdom. Nwifuru’s political career includes serving as the speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly from June 2015 to May 2023. He currently holds the position of governor of Ebonyi State since 2023.

Accident
Francis Nwifuru, narrowly escaped death in a road accident in 2023. The incident occurred when a truck rammed into his convoy around Amagu community, in the Abakaliki Local Government Area of the state. He was returning from the grand finale of the APC campaign rally held at Uburu community in the Ohaozara Local Government Area. The impact of the accident shattered Nwifuru’s bulletproof SUV, rendering it beyond repair.
